PR-LSAMP has established a web of mentoring relationships among the faculty, graduate students, upper level undergraduate students, and lower division undergraduate students to enhance synergy between programs. Graduate students receive stipends from the NSF supported AGEP Program to serve as mentors of upper level undergraduate students participating in PR-LSAMP research activities. Each AGEP graduate student is assigned as a mentor to a group of undergraduate students, who will assist them in their research projects, and in overcoming potential difficulties to enter graduate school. PR-LSAMP, in turn, provides stipends to upper division undergraduate students to serve as mentors to a group of lower division undergraduate students to attract them into research; guide their initiation into the research process; train them in the laboratory they have been accepted in, facilitating their transition into their new role as researchers, and assist them with difficulties they may confront in advancing through their undergraduate studies. Faculty mentors supervise student mentors and also participate in directly assisting students.
