  PR-LSAMP Organizational Structure

PR-LSAMP utilizes the Resource Center as a virtual structure to reform the undergraduate educational system and to serve as a catalyst and partner of change across the K-16+ continuum.  The RCSE has close linkages with the national reform movement in education and cognitive science, and links closely with the industrial and business communities. The information obtained from these connections is then transferred to the participating institutions and converted into educational strategies, specific objectives, and benchmarks to implement and measure progress of the reform.

The PI and the Project Director of PR-LSAMP, interact directly with CEO’s of the participating institutions to promote the development of policies and system wide strategies for reform, while simultaneously facilitating the formation of leadership among faculty to pioneer educational reform.  This approach has resulted in an effective institutionalization strategy that essentially consists of a simultaneous bottom-up and top-down approach.

Dr. Manuel Gómez, Director of the UPR Resource Center fro Science and Engineering (RCSE) since its foundation in 1980, is the Principal Investigator (PI).  Dr. Ana C. Piñero, the Associate Director of the RCSE, is the Project Director and ensures that PR-LSAMP is closely articulated with the other systemic endeavors coordinated by the Resource Center. The academic deans and/or the deans of science and engineering at the participating institutions are the institutional Co-PI’s and as such are responsible for directly overseeing the development and implementation of PR-LSAMP strategies in their institutions.  The Dean is assisted by a Liaison Officer, a STEM faculty member with demonstrated leadership and highly recognized by his/her peers.  The Liaison Officer is in charge of the operational implementation of the program at the institution.

Prof. Javier Figueroa is the PR-LSAMP Assistant Coordinator, and Mrs. Ana Feliciano, is the Management Coordinator.  Together with the Project Director, they are responsible for the coordination and implementation of the project activities, the collection of project and participants’ data, project evaluation and dissemination of PR-LSAMP successful strategies to improve STEM education, programmatic and fiscal reports, and allocation and administration of NSF and local funds.  Ms. Lizzie Bultrón is the PR-LSAMP Secretary at the central office.
