Electronic Modules for STEM students to Become Fluent in Information Technology (FITness)

These modules were developed to assist students in becoming fluent in information technology (FITness).

The skills, concepts, and capabilities to be developed or strengthened in STEM students through the modules are:

Information Technology Skills (ITS):

  • Setting up a personal computer (ITS-1)

  • Using basic operating system features (ITS-2)

  • Using a word processor to create a text document (ITS-3)

  • Using a graphic and/or artwork package to create illustrations, slides or other image-based expressions of ideas (ITS-4)

  • Connecting a computer to a network (ITS-5)

  • Using the Internet to find information and resources (ITS-6)

  • Using a computer to communicate with others (ITS-7)

  • Using a spreadsheet to model simple processes of financial tables (ITS-8)

  • Using a database system to set up and access useful information (ITS-9)

  • Using instructional materials to learn how to use new applications or features (ITS-10)

Thirty seven (37) modules have been produced in Spanish, eight (8) of which have been translated into English. Thirty three (33) have been published in the Web at: http://lms.bc.inter.edu. Although most of the modules cover the three components (skills, concepts and capabilities) to develop fluency in information technology, a specific objective was assigned to each one.
